About Us
The Fort Collins Museum & Discovery Science Center are two of the most respected cultural organizations in Northern Colorado. We serve more than 50,000 visitors annually and provide exciting life-long learning opportunities to community members of all ages.
In 2007, the two separate institutions merged with the vision to create an unprecedented blended experience of history, culture, and hands-on science exploration. The mission of the partnership is to create and maintain a facility and experience that will inspire, educate, and entertain people about science and culture.
This merger is a unique public/private partnership between Discovery Science Center, a nonprofit organization, and the City of Fort Collins which maintains the Fort Collins Museum. Planning and development for a new joint facility have been underway since mid-2007, with a projected opening date of late 2011 or early 2012.
For those who know and love us as separate institutions, our core identities will not change.
Discovery Science Center will continue to deliver hands-on science education and experiences across Northern Colorado. The partnership and the new facility will just allow us to do it bigger and better. The collections and programs of the Fort Collins Museum will continue to inspire visitors to explore the history of the Cache la Poudre River valley and Northern Colorado. The new, exciting experiences created with Discovery Science Center in the same facility will increase our ability to engage with you, our visitors. There will always be more to explore!
