Laboratory classes provide students in-depth, hands-on experiences with select topics. Each lab requires pre-registration and has an associated fee for materials. Science labs are available now, while History Labs (including Raise the Tipi, Brick Making, The Trapper and the Beaver, and Archaeology) will debut in 2010.

Circulation: Pig Heart Explore the inner workings of a heart! Learn about the circulatory system and its mighty hard-working hero, the heart.

$35 per class, maximum 25 students

Anatomy: Squid Investigate the entire body of a squid to learn about anatomy and systems, and how parts work together to form a whole organism.

$35 per class, maximum 25 students

meet the animals

Animal Exploration, K–Grade 3 and Grade 4-6: Meet Discovery Science Center’s animals, from the tarantulas to the ball python. All animals are important and connected to every other living thing, including us! Explore the different animals through hands-on introductions and learn about their bodies, habitats and diets.

Students in Grade 4-6 will study the live animals to learn firsthand how animals fit into different classifications, plus fun information about their habitats, role in nature and place in the food chain.

$35 per class, maximum 25 students

starlab planetarium shows

All StarLab Planetarium Shows are $35 per class, for a maximum 25 students. StarLab provides an entertaining, informal experience with astronomy concepts using stories, constellation identification and navigation tips. Please request the specific program you'd like when you book your reservation.

Tonight’s Sky, K–6: A great beginning astronomy show, this program provides an introduction to dominant stars, constellations, moon positions and the myths and legends that accompany them. This program also allows students to go home and find those same constellations, in the same location in the night sky, that very evening!

Greek and Roman Constellations, Grade 3-6: Legends of Greek and Roman mythology come alive in the constellations. Mythic characters, gods and goddesses are highlighted and their adventures shared in these ancient stories.

Native American Skies, Grade 2-6: With the crackle of a fire and the chirping of crickets, relax and listen to night sky stories of the continents First Nations.

Shapes in the Sky, pre K–K: This show introduces young children to prominent starts in the sky.

Moon Phases, Grade 3-6: Through demonstrations and the planetarium, explore the moon, its phases and its path across the earth’s sky.
